A $350 3D woodcarving CNC with a little help from my friends
Using an older Mitutoyo air cushions CMM for transforming it into a very stable CNC for my friend Alain who operates a RUclips channel about woodworking.
Since his old light duty CNC was letting him down Alain needed something more reliable to be able to perform many types of sculptures designed from his CAD program.
In oder to realize the project, I found an old Mitutoyo CMM and offered to transform it into a CNC, in this video you'll be able to follow how from ideas, schematics, machining, welding and finally assembling we ended making a decent CNC able to perform for days projects without worries...
The whole project was filmed on a period of about 18 months at all steps of the fabricati...

My final verdict on this tool is that for about 10% of the price it’s possible to get some results, nothing close to the origin...

But I need to make sure the HV board doesn't turn off. I intend to assemble a circuit to simulate the signal from the HV board that goes to the optical coupler.

    Hi! Do you know the model number of the inverter that is used for the microwave oven Panasonic NN ST651W? The repairing shop return my oven without the inverter installed. The 2technian" include in the package two inverters and a notesaying that all the inverters are similar, but he takes out the inverter of my oven and he is later confused what are the inverter that came installed originally. I must know the mentioned info to recover my original inverter.

    • @pierresgarage2687
      @pierresgarage2687 Месяц назад

      If the magnetron housing is isolated from the unit and there is one of the side that makes contact with the case, there is most likely a problem with this magnetron. Look out on Ali express or Ebay using the number on the unit, you should find something in the 30 to 50 USD range. look out for burnt windings on the High Voltage coil or anything wrong ont the HV board... Let me know how it turns out...

    Hello Poerre. Can you tell me please. Do you short the capacitors on these Panasonic inverter microwaves,please? And if so .Can you tell me please. How you do it more safe? Thank you and nice video.

    • @pierresgarage2687
      @pierresgarage2687 Месяц назад

      It's always safer to discharge those capscitors, the best way to procede is to get an appropriate resistor and a wire with aligator clips, you clip one end with the resistor to ground or one lead of the capacitor and with the other end you touch the other end. Avoid touching with both hands or making a part with 2 opposite body parts.....

    • @astafford8865
      @astafford8865 Месяц назад

      Thank you Pierre for the reply. Are the capacitors easy visible? . I was told it was near the green part of the Inverter board. I only saw a picture so far. I haven't seen the real one yet. Many thanks for the reply.@@pierresgarage2687

    • @pierresgarage2687
      @pierresgarage2687 Месяц назад

      As I remember they are quite easy to reach, if an aligator clip doesn't do it you can use meeter probes with a needle point to get the same result, after discharge use the meter to check for residual voltage, though, be careful with the kilovolts rated parts not to overload you meter's capacity. If you're not rxperienced with electric circuits and electronics, be really careful not to cause yourself injuries...

    I have the exact same jack and it won't hold a lift and also leaks oil. I only use it for lifting lighter weight things like lighter parts of a vehicle like a wheel when replacing control arms. Your video is incredibly detailed and concise. Better than a training video. I'm going to try and repair mine as I've had it for so long that I can't bear to part with it. Quick question. Do you remember how much jack oil it took to refill after re-assembly?

    • @schifoso
      @schifoso Месяц назад

      I ended up cleaning mine up and it didn't take much oil at all. When re-assembling, if you're having problem lining up the bottle jack part into the main assembly, you can lift up on the saddle and that will change the length of the whole assembly and make lining up a lot easier.

      About the tubes, depending on how much of a dent there is, you can possibly reshape or lightly rebore it and/or lap the cylinders. If the dammage is too extensive and if you want looking like new part just be aware that you can order brand new parts from Starrett or some distributor, that is also true for he vial either alone or installed in the tubes. Well, a fine mesh on the basket should be the cure to prevent any debris entering the pump. But that will requiere cleaning more often. I do think a clogged discharge line may make the impeller cavitate and eventually deform the shaft.

    Which one to get depends how much precision you actually need. If a cheap caliper is accurate to within 1/100th of a millimetre, that's enough for most people.

    Does it matter which side of the y-axis you start your milling ? Back to front or like in video front to back

      I don't know if you're familiar with machining modes, but, to make it as short as possible, there are two modes to consider in this operation. conventionlal milling or climb milling, in the video I'm using conventional milling, meaning that the rotation of the cutter won't pull the part into itself. This is mainly to avoid that the backlash isn't gonna be a issue and cause the tool to get a huge bite and break. To use climb milling safely you need a very rigid machine with a lead screews with virtualy no backlash. The bigger the diameter of the tool the more risk to use climb milling gets. Let me knowif it's clear for you....

    Implement the use of International measuring standards like the main standard.

      In Canada we're now using the metric system on most everything, but, when I was learning we used the imperial system, it really takes a long time to convert our mind to another system. Now, I can quite figure metric dimensions when working, it's still more difficult to directly work using the metric system... 😥

    🦘Excellent tutorial. I am a Long-retired Machinist from nearly fifty years ago and I just wanted to find out again how to do the dividing head thing. Nice tutorial 🦘

    Interesting how deep the 6010 got with only 100a and mig needed nearly 3x as much current to do better. I wonder how deep a large 6010 at 250-300a would do.

      I've never tried with rods bigger than 5/32", it would require at least 1/4" rods, my favorite rod is the 7018, just a little inconvenient on the restarts, though, it produces nice clean beads with easy slag removal...

      @@pierresgarage2687 I share your love of 7018 (except restarts). I just love the fast freeze and deep penetration of 6010, plus it seems a bit more challenging to use, which is both frustrating and rewarding.
